On Tuesday our volleyball team played Summit. Janaye Rodriguez and Victoria Vargas stepped in for Lauren Parnell and did an amazing job hitting and passing as the Lady Hawks defeated the Summit Bears 2 games to zero. In the first game, Rosemary Chapman controlled the net and made great sets to hitters, Victoria, Janaye, and Kylie Keene. Kristen Watson and Jewlia Maniss made many key passes in the back row.

In game 2 it was more of the same as the serving by Evette Mendoza, Kylie Keene and Lauren Parnell were too much for the Bears to handle. The match ended on a heads-up play off a shanked pass when Victoria Vargas hit a difficult overhand shot from the back left corner for the final point. Janaye Rodriguez was named player of the game.

The JV match was disappointing, but there were a few bright spots. Evelyn Bracamontes served well and Jasmin Grigsby made some perfect passes, but too many communication errors led to poor performance. You'll get them next time girls!

Sequoia stayed tied for first place with a 19-0 victory over Summit. The game started with a long run by Demetrius Ingram, who scored shortly after. The extra point was scored on a pass from Nash Wobrock to Abraham Magana. Jayson Thao followed that up with a 60 yard scamper for a score to close out the half. The second half saw Demetrius Ingram get his second touchdown of the game to finish off the scoring. Isaiah Ramirez also contributed with a 20 yard run on his only carry of the day. The defense saw great play by several players notably Marcus Villegas, Marco, Cortes, Isaac Molina, Angel Torres Martinez and Ruben Hernandez Martines. Marcus Villegas was named player of the game.

The Sequoia cross country team ran at home yesterday. The Lady Hawks dominated yet once again, Sequoia placed 15 girls in the top 30, and the girls were one point away from a perfect score. Haley Woods was able to lead the way with a first place. Elizabeth Hernandez placed herself in second, and Isabel Valdez in third. Other Hawks that did well were Maddy Chapman coming in fourth, Samantha Rainey in sixth, Zannah Castanada in tenth and Chloe Weaver in fourteenth. Nice job ladies. The boys also ran well, placing themselves in fourth. John Leal placed tenth, Alex Sanchez placed sixteenth, Andre Escarzaga in seventeenth, and Roberto Emigdio on eighteenth. Good job Hawks.
